At the northern end of Playa Del Rey up to the Ballona Creek inlet and the entrance to the marina sits Toes Beach. The beach earned its name before the large offshore breakwater was installed in 1965. Before that, it was a surfing hub for the region. The story goes that one classic summer day around 1961 full of noserides on a wave breaking off the Creek's jetty is when it earned the name "Toes Over" or just Toes, if you prefer a little more brevity.
