Avila Beach is a beautiful, southerly-facing beach town at the heart of the San Luis Obispo Bay. While the beach, town, and surrounding landscape have beauty in abundance, the surf may often leave a little to be desired. But hey, sometimes that's ok - especially when your in the Central Coast.

The Carmel coastline may be one of the most beautiful in the state. Dramatic rocks, white, silky sand, and old growth cypress. It's the kind of place that you don't need to be in for very long to convince yourself that you could drop everything and move there. The perfect destination to find your warmest wetsuit and find a couple bowly waves or skip the surf and elope on the beach.
Cayucos Pier in Cayucos, San Luis Obispo County, California
Cayucos is another beautiful historic beach town along the San Luis Obispo County coast. If everything really aligns, surf has potential here, however, most of the time you can expect some cold, heavy closeouts with any size. The town gets its name for the Spanish word for a dugout canoe, whih was used by the Chumash to fish the bay.

Morro Rock looms 576' feet over Morro Bay and offers a dramatic, other-worldly backdrop to the beach and the surf.
Pismo Beach Pier in Pismo Beach, California.
Pismo Beach Pier is another historic California pier originally constructed in the late 1800s. And like other historic, wooden piers throughout the state was destroyed and rebuilt many times over. A go-to regional option for finding some pretty fun waves here and there too.

Shell Beach sits at the northern end of Pismo Beach and features a ton of really cool skinny, long rock reefs that extend from the beautiful weathered bluffs out into the ocean. Some of these setups, like Sewers and Saint Andrews offer some good surf. But if not, the coastline and the bluffs above offer plenty to experience and explore.
